Claire's first novel, Fugitive Blue, won the Dobbie Award for Women Writers and was longlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award 2009.

Her short stories have been published in various journals, including Meanjin, Island, Overland and Australian Short Stories.

Claire has travelled extensively — most recently to London, Paris and Boston on a research scholarship — and worked as a bookseller, actor, university tutor, theatre usher, soap opera story-liner, gallery attendant and media monitor. 

She is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Melbourne on George Eliot, Henry James and nineteenth-century travel writing, and working on her second novel. She lives in Melbourne with her husband and two young children.
